Pros and cons of Chess Openings app for iPhone and iPad

Chess Openings app good for

I love chess, and I consider myself a decent player, but seriously, 2000 openings is more than enough to muddy the waters for me, a casual player. I just needed something to show me some basic lines to play and experiment with in games. i dont have the resources to memorize so many openings and variations. This app proves MORE than enough to give someone a solid primer. once you get several moves deep in a line, you can think your way through it, and you are beyond the scope of what this is, and it is quick and easy. i LOVE the visual progerssion - efficient and helpful, appeals to my senses. The price makes it five stars.
As a beginner I wanted something like flashcards to learn the basic openings. This app is just what I needed. I have other apps for playing and statistics but none of them presents openings in a format for easy study and memorization. Very pleased with this addition to my collection.
One thing I cant understand is why this app hasnt taken off yet? The app is designed simply, beautifully and efficiently. Allows you to decline and follow all the most popular openings from the menu or plug in a position manually (to find out names and continuing playable positions). An absolute must have.
The interface is simple and beautiful, and the app is an effective training tool. Ive tried others. This is the one for me!

Some bad moments

Dont waste your $0.99. Not a bad idea, but the book of openings is quite limited (6-8 ply deep). Not at all useful for learning an actual opening. When confronted by a move not in the book, the app prevents the move from being made and indicates "unknown move". I would encourage the author to expand on the app, and integrate a database to draw on for the moves. This app should essentially be a "move tree".
I want to be able to search for an opening. Without being able to play past the end of the opening, it hinders my research for the current games Im playing against in my tournaments. Opening Pro is another iphone app that teaches openings, but that one plays a full game of chess.
Total waste of my time... Little or nothing on the winnawer defense, Berlin defense, or four pawns attack... All very big lines in the French, Ruy Lopez, and Alekhine, respectively. Ive had this app for five minutes and allready want my money back.
This app needs better directions on how one would use it to train. They list a bunch of openings but not how they compare to each other in terms of statistics or possible outcomes.
It shows a couple of moves then shows a button that says "proceed with contributions". Dont bother with this "free" app.
